- Password Protection
-
- An optional password feature has been included in CD-Runner. This feature is
- intended to allow novice computer users (such as children) to access CD-Runner
- directly from DOS or as Windows initially loads. All of the normal CD-Runner
- applications will be available, such as the Audio CD, CD-ROM, RD and Media
- Runners, but access to any of the libraries, setup screens, or exit to Windows
- is protected by a password screen. Unless the correct password is entered at
- this screen, access is not allowed. This prevents setups, libraries, or other
- Windows files or applications from being altered.
-
- A system shutdown command is also included to allow for safe Windows exit (into
- DOS) without a password to allow the computer to be safely powered off (without
- destroying open files...).
-
-
- PASSWORD SETUP
-
- To enable/disable or modify the password options, access the CD-Runner Setup
- section. Click on the 'Advanced' button to access the password options section.
- At this screen you may enter or change a password, enable or disable the
- password screen, and lock the wallpaper window (if used).
-
- If you wish to allow access to Windows but not to the CD-Runner setup or
- libraries, then do not lock the wallpaper but enable and enter a password. This
- will allow the wallpaper to be removed by left-clicking on it directly or by
- clicking on the wallpaper icon, thus allowing access to Windows (or in the case
- where no wallpaper is entered, locking is not required). If you wish to block
- access to Windows, then entering wallpaper and locking it here will not allow
- it to be removed, therefore access to other Windows applications will not be
- possible.
-
-
- PASSWORD SCREEN
-
- If a password has been entered and is enabled as described above, then when
- the user attempts to access any of the libraries or the CD-Runner setup, or
- attempts to exit to Windows then a password entry box will be displayed. You
- may enter the correct password and click OK to proceed, click on Cancel to
- return to where you where in CD-Runner, or click the System Off button. The
- System Off command will close all active Windows files/apps, close CD-Runner
- and exit directly to DOS. Once at the DOS prompt, the user may then safely turn
- the computer off.
-
- Note that for security reasons, the password is not displayed as it is entered;
- as the actual password is typed, * (asterix) characters will be displayed in
- place of the actual keyboard keys being pressed.
-
- If the wallpaper is locked and the user inadvertantly mimimizes CD-Runner, then
- simply manually eject the CD-ROM or Audio CD; this will cause the disc prompt
- screen to pop up over the wallpaper, at which time you may re-load the CD-ROM
- or Audio CD.
